Math 24 is a unique teaching tool designed to sharpen students' mental math, number sense, critical thinking, problem solving, and pattern sensing.
Some of our Mary of Nazareth students in grades 3-8 competed in a Math 24 tournament at Serra Catholic High School. They represented our school well and had a great time meeting the other participating students. Great job! You make us proud!
Gianna O., one of our 8th grade students, made her First Holy Communion this past Sunday. May she be blessed as she begins a new life in Christ.
"Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life; he who comes to me shall not hunger, and he who believes in me shall never thirst."
-John 6:35
Blessings to our Mary of Nazareth students, Selena W., Natalia W. and Cisaro W., who were recently baptized.
"So in Christ Jesus you are all children of God through faith, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ."—Galatians 3:26-27

The Mary of Nazareth Catholic School faculty and staff would like to extend our congratulations to our very own Mrs. Mary Crossen. We are proud to announce that Mrs. Crossen is receiving the Pittsburgh Diocese Golden Apple Award given only to a few outstanding teachers throughout the Pittsburgh Diocese.
It is said that teaching is the profession that makes all other professions possible. Mrs. Crossen is our middle school teacher who brings about change in her young students with fun, excitement and helps them develop a thrill of learning. She has a positive attitude and a sense of humor; she creates a wonderful learning environment for her students. We at Mary of Nazareth Catholic School find ourselves lucky to have such a talented and caring teacher in Mrs. Crossen.
The Golden Apple Awards dinner was held on May 28 at St. Paul Seminary. Pictured with Mrs. Crossen, at the dinner, is Fr. Terry O'Connor and Mr. Beau Quattrone.
Our 8th and 7th grade students were taught about Genomics & the Molecular Revolution from our friends from Central Catholic. The students engaged in a demonstration focusing on the structure and function of DNA, followed by a brief overview of the roles of various powerful technologies that drove this molecular revolution. Thank you to Central Catholic students and Mr. Mark Krotec for visiting us today.
The 7th and 8th Grade went to see a preview of "The Addams Family" at Serra. Their performances are Friday at 7pm, Saturday at 1pm & 7pm, and Sunday at 2pm. Mary of Nazareth Catholic School has put a new spin on March Madness by holding our own "Tournament of Books". We started with the top books in our "Sweet 16", which were read to students in preschool through grade 4. The books were voted on and narrowed down to the "Final Four". Our guest readers were our principal, Mr. Quattrone, our PERCES Regional Superintendent, Mr. Cuniak and Fr. Adam, who read the "Final" books. The "Tournament of Books" winner was "Creepy Crayon". Everyone was very excited to participate and put a new "spin" on reading!
One of our 8th grade students, Matias K., participated in the 8th Annual Chess Invitational, held at Aquinas Academy of Pittsburgh. He proudly represented Mary of Nazareth class of 2024, in his MNCS hoodie. Matias won 3 out of 4 games and finished in 7th place out of 170 students. Congratulations on a job well done!
Mary of Nazareth Catholic School celebrated Read Across America Day and Dr. Seuss’s birthday by having our 8th grade students read to our preschool, kindergarten and first grade students. The day encourages children to experience the joys and importance of reading. It’s also another way for our students to be a living example of God’s love!
Mary of Nazareth Catholic School students celebrated Leap Year in a very fun and unique way. "Anything but a Backpack Day” is a day when students are encouraged to leave their backpacks at home and bring their school supplies in a different type of container, such as a reusable grocery bag, a tote bag, or a small suitcase. Students expressed their creativity and individuality while making fun memories with their friends!
Catholic Schools Week is always a very special week for our school community. We observe the week with Mass, assemblies, field trips and other activities for our students, families, faculty and staff, parishioners and community members to celebrate what makes our Catholic school so great. We opened Catholic Schools Week with Mass and Open House, inviting the community and new families to see what makes our school shine. We continued our fun filled week with a Mad Science assembly, field trips to the Children’s Museum and the Museum of Illusions in Pittsburgh, a pep rally, and an ice cream social. We celebrated the 100th day of school with some very creative T-shirts and costumes and will end the week with some MNCS Student Bingo and our school mass.
